About MyLocalCouncil.org
Objectives and Purpose
MyLocalCouncil.org was launched on 1st January 2005 by
a former Chief Engineer of the London Borough of
Camden.
Although the web site has remained accessible since its
launch all updating was halted in January 2007, with over
500 annotated photographs on record.
MyLocalCouncil.org made a brief appearance in January 2009 to
coincide with the award of a new Highway Maintenance
Contract which commenced on 1st April 2009.
The current Objectives of the web site (and its
accompanying Blog) are:
Objective 1
To record and annotate failures in the delivery of services
by Camden and its partners* where these are 'invisible'
to the Audit Commission's Comprehensive Performance Assessment/Comprehensive Area Assessmsnt (CPA/CAA)**
Purpose
To maximise value for money, quality and
environmental benefits for Council taxpayers by
encouraging, and coercing the Authority into
providing services that are at least compatible with its
status of "Excellent and Improving Strongly - a 4-Star Authority" as assessed in the Audit Commission's CPA/CAA**
Objective 2
To campaign for the publication of Contract Conditions
and Specifications (excluding commercially sensitive
material) of Council Contracts on the Council's web site.
Purpose
To allow Council taxpayers, businesses and people living
and working in Camden to assess for themselves whether
they are receiving all the benefits of contracts that
provide local services and to encourage the improvement
and optimisation of such contracts by interaction and
dialogue.
*
the term "partners" as used here by Camden really means
"contractors" - in old money - and is an attempt to embrace the
sophisticated concept proposed by the "Latham Report" and Sir
John Egan in the 1990s and which Camden may not be completely
ready for yet.
